Our Hood Cleaning Process

NFPA 96 compliant, IKECA certified, and thorough from hood to rooftop fan. We leave no grease behind.

The 7 Steps to a Fully Compliant System

Each job follows a strict protocol to ensure bare-metal cleanliness and inspection readiness.

1

Initial Inspection & System Assessment

Our certified technician inspects your entire exhaust system — hood canopy, filters, ductwork, fan, and access panels. We take detailed notes, measure duct dimensions, and identify any issues (grease thickness, missing access panels, fan belt wear). A digital pre-cleaning report is started.

  • ✔ Check NFPA 96 required access panel locations
  • ✔ Measure grease buildup to determine scraping intensity
  • ✔ Identify any fire hazards or code violations
2

Protection of Kitchen Surfaces

We cover cooking equipment, floors, and nearby surfaces with heavy-duty poly sheeting and drop cloths. Our team uses color-coded tools to avoid cross-contamination. All chemical agents are food-safe and grease-cutting.

3

Grease Scraping & Degreasing

Using professional-grade scrapers, we manually remove thick grease deposits from the hood liner, baffle filters, and inside ductwork. Our technicians follow a top-down method — from the fan housing down to the hood — to prevent dripping onto cleaned areas. NSF-certified degreasers are then applied to dissolve residual grease.

4

High-Pressure Steam & Wash

We use 300°F steam cleaning systems that safely remove remaining grease, reaching deep into duct seams and fan blades. The combination of heat and pressure eliminates bacteria and oils, leaving metal surfaces spotless. All wastewater is collected and disposed of in accordance with local environmental regulations.

5

Exhaust Fan & Rooftop Cleaning

The fan housing, blades, motor housing, and roof curb are fully degreased. We also inspect fan belts, bearings, and electrical connections. A clean fan improves airflow efficiency and reduces fire risk — a step many low-cost cleaners skip.

6

Post-Cleaning Inspection & Bare Metal Verification

Our certified technician performs a final inspection with a bright LED light and mirror to confirm zero grease residue inside the hood, duct, and fan. NFPA 96 demands “visibly clean” — we go further to bare metal. All access panels are resealed.

7

Digital Documentation & Certification Sticker

We provide a comprehensive report including before/after photos, cleaning details, and technician signature. A durable NFPA 96 certification sticker is placed on your hood, showing service date, next due date, and our company contact. You receive an email copy for insurance and fire marshal records.

Common Questions About Our Process

❓ How long does a full system cleaning take?

Most single-system restaurants (1 hood) take 3–5 hours. Larger kitchens with rooftop fans and long ducts may take 6–8 hours. We work overnight to avoid downtime.

❓ Do you remove and clean the fan from the roof?

Yes. We disassemble fan guards, clean the housing and blades, then reassemble. Our technicians are trained in rooftop safety.

❓ What if my system lacks access panels?

We can fabricate and install NFPA 96 compliant access panels on-site — an essential part of code compliance for horizontal ducts.

❓ Can you provide documentation for my insurance company?

Absolutely. Our detailed report with photos and certification sticker satisfies most insurance audit requirements.
